Hari Raya 2004

After all the kuih raya, lemang, ketupat, rendang and all the other stuff which made my mid section grew horizontally, and the last minute rush of preparing the thesis proposal (just completed it last night, hope Faisal will remember to print and submit it to Capt. Manni), I'm finally writing a new entry.

The Journey
Me and the guys (Abu, Qam, Munir and Pali) starts to head north in my Unser in the early morning of Thursday, sometime around 1 a.m. Actually we went out the house at exactly midnight, but after a short stop at section 6's 7-E and burger stall, which took ages to be prepared considering we only ordered 5 burgers, we were somewhat delayed. But after that, it was al smooth. We entered the PPLUS hiway from Kota Damansara and starts to head North. I had some reservation early on about driving long distance at night, considering the fact that my eyesight aren't as good as I'd like them to be at night and that I've never done it before. However, having the guys as company did help tremendously and I must say that Abu is a great 'co-driver'. ;P
We made our first stop at Sg. perak so that i can fill some gas for the car. After that, we continued the journey before stopping again at Bukit Gantang 'coz i need to take a leak. Along the way, traffic we smooth and there was not much problem for me except for a few cars which irritates me by having their lights on high beams. But the sheer volume of people at the rest stops along the was quite unbelievable. All the major rest area are full and so does the rest of the smaller rest stops.
We finally arrived at penang around 4.30 a.m and decided to drop Qam at the Island and also to have sahur there. We went to Pelita Nasi Kandar restaurant at Sg. Dua at waited while Qam's family came to fetch him. They arrived some time after 5 a.m. and soon we were back on the mainland. Abu's House was the next stop after that.

Continuing the journey, I was beginning to feel sleepy. Maybe it was because of the heavy sahur which makes me feel like I want to mengular..lol..Munir kept me company after that while Pali took a nap. We exited at Sg. Petani's north exit and drop Munir at his house. After that, it was only me and Pali. We got back to the highway at Gurun and by that time, the sun was already rising. The scene were really beautiful, seeing those low lying clouds, the fog, and the picteresque view of paddy fields. Too bad I couldn't stop to take some pictures.
We arrived at Alor Setar at about 8 a.m and went straight to Shahab Perdana as Pali wanted to buy the ticket to goback to ALAM. Pali cam to tok's house after that to get some rest while waiting for 10 o'clock (Pali wanted to go to Pekan Rabu for some 'business'..hehehe). Finally, I sent Pali to Kuala Kedah jetty.

The Celebration
The house was recently renovated and it made it much more confortable to live in, considering the number of people that is had to accommodate. Since Kak Suhaina had her wedding on the 4th of raya, most of my relatives came back to Alor Setar to celebrate Hari Raya. The 1st day was like usual. I had shower and put on my black baju melayu with sampin and went for sembahyang raya. After that, we took turns to take family photos. As usual, abah was the photographer on duty. I only took a few pic since I know that dad love the job so much. We also did all the usual thing like minta maaf among each other, hand out duit raya and eat! And Boy did I eat a lot. Seems like all the flab that have went away a bit during the fasting month came back that morning.hehe....After that, we did the usual relatives houses tour to beraya.
The 2nd day of Raya was the most special for me I guess. It's the first time that I'm celebrating raya with some one important to me....Besides that, I also paid a visit to Abu's house. Met Qam there to give him the bag that he left in the car.
3rd Day. Today is the day for Kak Suhaina's nikah ceremony. I went with the other relatives to see the ceremony at the mosque near sultanah asma seconday school (can't remember the name of the mosque). Anyway, it was quite entertaining to see how that guy didn't even managed to say a word for the first akad...He stumbles for a few more times before the kadi told him to relax a bit and take a breather....I was grinning from ear to ear by then, seeing how funny the situation was. That is until Boy turned to me and says that the same thing could happen to me latter. That managed to put things into perspective for me..lol...Anyway, after a change of place, being a bit further from the crowd especially the females, that guy managed to say his akad perfectly and Kak Suhaina is officially married.
4th day of raya was the bersanding ceremony at the brides house.

Coming Back
Iwan, Shafeeq and me went back to KL on thursday, the 5th day of raya. I knew something was wrong that day, but couldn't really figured what it was. I found out about the first thing as I was just about to get into the Highway. I realised that the car was low on gas and was nearly empty. I had to exit at the Alor Setar's south exit and look for a gas station. Thank god that the car had enough gas to reach there.

After that, we continued the journey. Made a quick stop at Abbas's house in Sg. Petani 'coz the boys wanted to pick upsome BMX parts.

The next stop was Sg. Dua, Penang. Ros's House :)
It was also a very brief stop. Just for me to pick up some of her stuff that she wants to bring to KL. But shortly after I left her house, she called and told me to turn back 'coz I forgot to take the chocolate cake. I don't know why, but at the same time, I also suddenly realized that I left my file containing materials that I needed for the thesis proposal at Alor Setar. Anyway, I turn around, got the cake, say good bye to Ros for the second time and called mom to remind her to bring the file when they are coming back.
We made a stopped at Mak Su's House in Tronoh to beraya and spend the night there. The next morning, we,together with Mak su's family, continued our journey to Kl. When we reached KL, we directly went to Cheras to see Atok. Haven't seen her for quite sometime since she went for umrah for the whole of Ramadhan and only came back to Malaysia a day before.

Balik Kampung

I got back from ALAM yesterday. Tonight, Pali, Abu, Munir, Qam and myself will head north for balik kampung. I will be driving the Unser and we're planning to depart sometime after midnight to avoid the traffic. Hope everything will go well. I will be dropping Abu and Qam @ Penang, Munir @ Sungai Petani and Pali in Alor Setar.

I don't know whether I'm gonna be able to go online or not when I'm at Alor Setar. So,just in case I don't, I wish each and every one of you out there Selamat Hari Raya and Maaf Zahir Batin. If you happens to be in the around (Alor Setar or kl after next friday), feel free to drop by at my house. Give me a call if you need directions. Meh la beraya woi!!!!

Flash flood woes....

Just got back fromUTM yesterday. Finished with the last paper at about 12. Got back, packed my stuff and headed to KL at about 2.30 pm. Had Bawang as my co-driver. Stopped at machap rest area for awhile where I met with the DCN08 bikers convoy. After that, I continue with the journey. Started raining at Tangkak if I'm not mistaken and after that, it was wet all the day. Sometimes it rained so hard that I can't see shit. BTW, I hate those drivers who switched on their hazard light when its raining while their car is still moving, especially when they switch lanes..makes me damned confused.

reached Sg. Besi toll plaza around 6 and straight away, there was a massive traffic crawl heding to kl. Took me nearly 45 minutes to get to the junction going to the mines race track. Usually, it doest even took 5 minutes. Can you imagine how bad it was? Even then, there was a pool of water at that junction and a lot of ppl changed their mind about going there. But I was damn tensed that I couldn't care less. I decided to go straight to it. Only then do I realized how deep it was. My heart skipped a beat and I prayed hard that the car wouldn't stall.... It didn't, thank god. From there, I head on straight for USJ. Passed by a fallen tree, a couple of accidents and a minor mud slide. Talking 'bout mudslides, it really gives me the creeps nowadays when i drive by a hill side during rainy days. Sheesh...

Got on to LDP where i faced with another traffic jam. By the time we reached that 'penang bridge', it was already time for buka puasa. Just great. There we were, stuck in a traffic jam with my stomachs grumbling so hard, demanding to be filled. Of all day, why did I had to wake up late and didn't have my sahur today?? The traffic only become bearable after passing uptown.

Stopped at OU after that to get something to eat. Got myself a double BBQ cheeseburger set at burger king and finished the whole thing in less than 5mins. Break fasting never felt so good.nikmat...hehehe.

walked around OU after that. While we were at the perfume section of UParkson, we stopped by to sample a few perfume. There was one bapuk promoter named Amy Abadi. Some name huh??hehehe (No, I didn't asked her/his name, I just read it from his/her tag). He/she was promoting this J.lo perfume at bawang and at the same time, dropping suggestive hints at bawang. What's with the body gesture and suggestive/double meaning remark. I was dying trying not to laugh...heh.....bawang was cursing like hell. You should have seen his face.lol

After that,we head back. Made a short stop at petronas where bawang bought something from A&W. Dropped Bawang at his home and then head back to mine...what a long day.

Ramadhan sudah tiba

Haven't been writing anything for few weeks now. Since i got some time to kill, might as well write something right now.

Tomorrow, insyaallah will be the start of Ramadhan;the fasting month for muslims. Can't believe that it has actually been nearly a year since I left Sealand Freedom. Had my first experience of fasting on board a ship there. It was 'hell'!. With so much work to do and the ship trading only in the gulf area, there was no way that we can fast as we normally did back home. There was the weird working schedule to deal with, what more with the ship calling a port almost everyday. Then there was also the heat. But we were quite lucky that during that time, it was almost 'winter' season in the gulf. So it weren't as bad as the heat during may to august. The biggest challenge was from the fellow crew. With only the 2 of us (Helmi and me) being muslim, we did face some 'issues'. However, that were sorted out, no harm being done. Alhamdulillah, we managed to fast for the whole 2 weeks of Ramadhan on board that ship before signing off and coming back to malaysia. It sure was a big relief for us to be able to continue fasting at home, with our families.

anyway, the reason I'm writing this is to remind my fellow friends out there, jangan tuang pose!!senang jer nak pose dkt malaysia nih....hehehehe...bersyukurlah......ciao

twice bitten, forever smitten??????

just completed my 3rd paper which was Electronic Navigational Aids II. gotta admit that this is one of the subject which i hate. I never paid atttention to the lecturer in the class, never really put an effort to study it, and thought that it's nothing but some mumbo jumbo which is impossible for me to comprehend. What makes me hate it even more now is that i've just realised YESTERDAY that it is not that hard at all. And this is the exactly the same mistake that i did with chemistry, back in sdar...I gave up too easily without even trying.only during the last minute, with all the pressure of exams on me, and so little time left, do i push my self to really read and understand the subject...imagine when i found out that it wasn't hard at all!!..guess some bad habits are hard to break...hope i won't do the same mistake for the third time....as for the xm, lets just say that i would be really lucky just to pass the subject......

sem yg gagal....

I think I've failed the last 2 test that I did. One was today, and the other yasterday. urggghh, this is by far the worst sem for me, academically. I could never get my CGPA to above 3.7.
Heck, i might even miss the dean's list this time around. owh, wutever.....just gotta hope i'll pass all the paper and do better next sem.

anyway, forgot to write the update about the football tourney (not that anyone actually gives a damn). It has already ended and my class lost the final 1-2 to the mates n masters. too bad.well, at least helmi was the top scorer and the windbreaker that the champs won was hideous. talk 'bout low grade imitation stuff....eeeeyuuccckkk!!!!!

Merdeka 2004

Merdeka celebration this year sucks big time!!!!! I didn't celebrate Merdeka last year as I was sailing at that time. Because of that, I was really looking forward to this year's celebration. Since there was no news of any worthy concert happening at Bukit bintang, I decided to go to IKANO Power Centre at Mutiara Damansara instead. Ok, to give them some credit, it wasn't THAT bad.. But I can't help comparing it to the 2002 celebration at Bukit bintang which was really awesome. The atmospehere in 2002 was really different. The concert line up were great, and even when we're having fun at the concert, there was still a feeling of pride and patriotism. I really felt great for being a malaysian that night. How can you forget Gerhana Ska Cinta performing that Sudirman's number with a ska flavour (Tanggal 31 if im not mistaken) and Love Me Butch playing the national's anthem. Padi was the main attraction that night and they surely didn't disapoint their fans who turned out that night. Even non-fans were converted that night.heh...The crowd was also great. People couldn't stop waving their flag through out the concert, shouting Merdeka!! In fact, I can say that it was the best out door concert that i have attended in Malaysia. And it was FOC!!.....Fast forward to last merdeka eve, the performers were good, there were games, hot air balloon ride, and stuff like that. The venue was a bit cramped though. But the important thing is, it didn't soar to the same great heights which was achieved back in 2002. It feels just like an empty celebration. I felt neither proud nor patriotic. It was just all flash and seems to be of no substance. Just an empty and pointless celebration for fun in the name of Merdeka. A lame excuse for a party. Heck, even the countdown was late by at least 2 minutes. How I miss MerdekaTone and MerdekaWow. Too bad the magazine and radio station is not around anymore. It is a big loss to the Malaysian music scene.

However, putting the celebration aside, that night is still personally special to me.I love that night, just hate the celebration. hehehe.......

Fariz and me @ Starbucks KLCC Posted by Hello

Ceritalah.....

Updates on the class football team....after winning our first match (1-0 I think) and getting a draw on our second game (1-1), we managed to get second place in the group and are through to the quarter-final. The match will be held today, 1645 hours and we will be playing against team T-Rah (whatever that means). Wish us luck kay!!!hehe....

Last weekend was interesting. A good friend of mine had her graduation day on Friday. Congratulation to her. And thanks also for the pic. You look gorgeous lah! Sorry I couldn't be there with a bouquet of sunflowers that I know you love so much. Hope I can somehow make it up to you later. ..
Saturday was really special, but i won't write about it here. Not just yet... ;P
Finally, after god knows how long, I get to meet up with one of my best buddy, Fariz. Heck, this guy was so difficult for me to meet even when he was still studying in KMYS. I didn't even met him when I came to KMYS for that rugby tourney. But it's okay 'coz now I understand how it feels to have other commitments.hehe...anyway, I had a good chat with him, reminiscing old memories and updating ourselves with what's new and stuff. Too bad i can't stay long with him as i had to get back to ALAM that afternoon. I was literally running to catch the bus!!....
God, i miss all you guys laa, my fellow 96'ers. And you guys should read taleq's latest entry for his blog (http://imcp.blogspot.com). It's hillarious!! can't believe somebody actually remember all those stuff....hehehe

I've just surfed Damn Dirty Apes website just now. Looks like the new album is finally ready and will be out soon. Can't wait to get my hands on it. Their last album, 'Valve State dreams' was awesome. I can't never imagine getting so high on music 'til i listened to it. If you guys haven't heard their music yet, you better check it out, especially to all those rock heads out there..

Here's one of my recent pic. It's me with Helmi, shortly after a class football match. of course, I didn't play. just act as a photographer and cameraman. our class won the match. Forgot the score though... Posted by Hello

Standing in the eyes of the world.....without anybody noticing

And so here comes another editions of the olympics.Sadly, I don't see any medal prospects in the malaysian contingent. Even Badminton team, the only sport which have brought medals to Malaysia before, have faltered. What went wrong? It's not for me to say because i'm not a sport expert, but right now I feel a bit sad to be a Malaysian. What more, with this month being the Independance month, an Olympic gold medal, or any other color for that matter, would have surely boosted the malaysian pride and sense of patriotism. L:et's just hope that the remaining Malaysian athletes can pull out a surprise or two (and that would have to be a REALLY BIG surprise).....

The Reason

The past 2 weeks has been great for me. The reunion was enjoyable. I wouldn't really say that it was a huge success based on the attendance. Only about 40 ppl came and that is not even half of the batch. Nevertheless, I had great fun. Get to meet up with lots of long 'lost' friends like Fly (and he is studying right here in uitm,SA!), yus (with the new and improved bod ...lol!!), canteen (can't see much change in you mate), atong (what have you been eating man??), and many others. Hopefully we'll have similar meet again.

I've been going out with someone lately. Boy, does this makes me feel weird.lol! Anyway, hoping this will be a start of something great. Right now, I'm enjoying this new experience. ;p

Got the prints of the pic that i took during LAMAN '04. Like I've predicted, most of it weren't great (alright, I'll say it...they were BAD!!). But a few pic were okay i think. Anyway, I need to learn more 'bout the art. Still got a long way to go. I got to be progressive, right?

ALAM is having a football tourney next week and my class seems to be dead serious about it. I'm not sure about our chances of winning the tourney, but based on the training, I think we should be able to mount a serious challenge to the other teams. I'm not gonna play in the tourney for various reasons. 1- I ain't gonna risk having my knee ligaments torn again 2- I don't have football boots and I am too stingy to buy one (hehe!) and the final reason and most important reason- aku kaki bangku laa ;p But anyway, this is another chance for me to practise sports photography. Too bad I don't have those zoom lenses. Any sponsors out there? hehe....

no tears in my eyes.....

Been ages since the last entry....lots of stuff happened since then. Firstly, my moyang(great grandmother) passed away recently. I went to ziarah her at Kg. Banjar, Teluk Intan and that night she passed away. Well, at least I get to see her for one last time. To me, it was a great loss. Feels like a generation is suddenly gone just like that. I was sad, no doubt about it. But I didn't shed a single tear. Same thing happened when my grandfather passed away. And I felt so bad coz of that. Does it mean I didn't love em bad enough??.....

On to the brighter side of things, I've finally managed to complete my Bachelor project proposal. It is titled 'Preparing malaysia for the Implementation of The International convention of Ballast Water Management system'. How's that eh??For a last minute work, it was okay I guess. But I am too happy about it 'coz I don't think that the issued I've mentioned are focused enough. Felt like it was just a collection of rough ideas. Anyway, just hoping that it won't get rejected. i'll improve on it later.

Looking forward to the weekend. Got everything pretty much lined up. There's the 96ers reunion to look forward to. It has been ages since I've met most of these guys. Also heading to the PC Fair at PWTC. Urrkkhhh...rambang mata lagi la. Too bad that my wallet is kinda 'light' now since I've just bought that camera last week. hehe....

Talking 'bout the camera, I brought it to the LAMAN '04 show last weekend to try it out. Lesson no.1: dont bring your kid bro along when you want to shoot outdoors. They can bring all sorts of trouble.lol. Just got the film processed yesterday and have yet to see the result. But I can say that I still have a loooonnnggg way to go before becoming a proper photographer...hehe..but at least I'm trying and that's what important, aight?

Groovy

You've got groovy Justin's fashion style. You don't need a lot of effort to pull of a look that's original. You've got a natural sense of fashion and you realise that simplicity is the way to go. Who needs shiny suits when you can pull on a pair of jeans and still turn a few heads? Many girls love guys with effortless style - and that's you!

errr i got this answer from the questionaire in xfresh.com....dont particularly think that this is true.....I'm a slob, really...see the last pic I posted if u dont believe me ;P
